Akkamma (Jayalakshamma)'s family:
Her father was Sri ShankaraIyer . When she was born in 1908 in Hassan, he was the shirastedar( I think mid level govt official) . Her mother was Lakshamma (also called Belgaum PAti in her later years). . They had 4 children - 2 boys and 2 girls. Jayalakshamma was the youngest in the family. The eldest brother was Sri Subramanyam who was an engineer. He worked in Burma for some time. He passed away in late 1940s. He was married to Smt Saraswati. They had a daughter Malati. Malati married Dr Krishnamoorthy of Madurai. Their daughter is Lata who lives now in Kansas, USA.
Akkamma with her parents (late 1930s) in Dariya Daulat , Sreerangapatna (Will look for a better pik)

Akkamma's other elder brother is S.Ramakrishnan. He was Professor of Mathematics at various places in India ( Secunderabad, Lingaraj College(Belgaum), MTB College (Surat) etc). He was very involved with his subject. In a different age, he probably would have excelled in research in Mathematics. When he went to Surat in his late 40s he learnt Gujerati so that he could teach Mathematics in that language (Gujerat was one of the first states to enforce teaching in the state language) . One remembers he participated for many years in the Running Race for aged (70+) people in Banaglaore and won prizes. He and his friends (including Prof B.S.Madhava Rao, the ex principal of Central College) used to get together in LalBagh every evening to discuss all things under the sun. He passed away in 1990 (15ht August). He married Smt Bhagyalakshmi. Their two children are Vasanthi and Shailakumar (Babu) . MOrea bout them later
